Chery to Merge, Rebrand, IPO
Chery, China's most talked about automaker, will at last sell shares with a planned IPO this year. No details or date available but Chery did confirm the company is performing due diligence in preparation for an IPO. Reports are Chery may merge with Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Co or JAC as part of Beijing's direction to consoliate the car making business. The new conglomerate would be called Da-An Motors. Of greatest interest - will there be a foreign IPO to follow?....

Chrysler China Looking for New Partner After Chery
Gasgoo.com reports on Chrysler China chief inspecting Great Wall Auto and developing plans for a small car and hatchback under Chrysler brand for export markets. China is Chrysler's largest market year-to-date outside North America and sales grew 217 percent to 20,655 units in the first ten months of this year.
Chrysler will shut production at all 30 USA factories next month the company said today. Meanwhile GM and Shanghai Automotive (SAIC) just openend a brand new plant in Shanghai.

Here Comes Chery!
Chinese auto bloggers are buzzing about Chery Automobile's word that it will begin exporting its A1 minicar to North America in the second half of 2008. The Chery A1 (pictured) is a 1.3 liter hatchback that already sells inside China as the Kimino. Chery says is has passed crash tests and road testing to qualify for European and North American standards. Unclear is whether the A1 will be branded a Dodge (as expected for some time) or as a special Chrysler brand.
Chrysler executives in the USA continue to say Chery is not ready for import in the United States but sales in Mexico are a definite. For border residents such as the Sinomania! staff that puts the Chinese minis in easy reach!
