Xi and Li Mix It Up
The two men many believe will replace President Hu Jintao when he steps down after his second and final 5 year term ends in 2013 are contrasting their perceived styles. Vice President Xi Jinping, the leading technocrat "princeling" (his father gave refuge to Mao and the Eighth Route Army after the Long March) is attempting a populist image with a soft power 5 nation European tour, emphasizing cultural exchanges, such as kicking off the Berlin Book Fair. Meanwhile Vice Premier Li Keqiang usually viewed a man of the people is meeting heads of state for the more strategic Shanghai Cooperation Organization. West and East, hard power or soft, who will it be, Xi or Li?....
